Biography

Erica is VP Business Development at Leatherhead Food Research a Science Group Company where she leads the F&B sales function across the business.

Prior to joining Leatherhead in September 2018, Erica was Assistant Director at The Office for Product Safety and Standards (formerly Regulatory Delivery) a directorate within the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) where she led engagement with devolved administrations. Erica is a food scientist by profession and has worked extensively on a number of food safety and better regulation related projects internationally in Jakarta, Nepal, Ukraine, Belarus, Philippines, Australia and the USA.

Prior to joining BEIS Erica was an academic and Food Safety Specialist at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) at University of Greenwich delivering MSc programmes in Food Safety and Quality Management. Erica was a Senior lecturer in Environmental Heath (Food Safety) at University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) where she was course leader for the MSc Food Quality and Safety Management programme and supported the delivery of the MSc in Food Safety management via e learn. Erica’s academic career was preceded by nearly 20 years in the food industry in technical and food safety and standards related roles.

Erica has written extensively on the subject of food safety in travel and tourism and her book ‘Aviation Food Safety’, was published October 2005 by ‘Wiley/Blackwell.’ Her previous publications include ‘Your Passport to Food Safety,’ a food safety training manual for cabin crew and ‘In-flight Food Safety Passenger Health & You,’ a cabin crew food safety training programme.

Erica is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and technology (IFST), a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)

Erica lives in West Sussex and is a passionate trustee and supporter of local cancer charity Cancer United which provides rehabilitation for cancer patients in a dedicated exercise facility.
